Mrs. Marie Orr joined the Port Phillip Pioneers Group Inc. in 1985 as Member No. 537, having claimed descent from Charles Thompson who arrived in the Port Phillip District on board the "Medway" on 9 August 1849.

Marie was elected to the PPPG Committee in 1987. In her work on the Committee she performed a variety of tasks starting with typing up the new member certificates, recording details from new members to the Card File Index held by the Genealogical Society of Victoria, as well as assisting with other joint projects.

In April 1989 Marie offered to undertake the transcribing of the Boroondara (Kew) Cemetery Memorial Inscriptions. Marie and her team started on this on the 14th October 1989 and finished on the 22nd May 1992. The microfiche was published by McBeth Genealogical Services in July 1993. Again with a small team Marie began transcribing the Box Hill Cemetery in 1993, concluding in 1995, with others indexing this information.

On her own Marie has transcribed sections of both the Melbourne General and East Brighton Cemeteries, as well as working at the Police Historical Unit extracting information from the Police Watch-House Charge Books.

When Elaine and John Bampton, who had run the PPPG Newsletter mailing team of which Marie was a part, left to live in Queensland in 2001, Marie continued to do the work on her own for some time.

For her outstanding service to the Group, Marie was awarded Honorary Life Membership in 1995. She died on 14 May 2012.

Marie is remembered fondly by PPPG members.
